The Army, The Navy Atlanta Concert reviews
Unbelievable show - still the man!
After seeing The Army, The Navy last night at the Tabernacle, I was surprised to find a number of mixed to negative reviews. The answer was DEFINITELY NOT! I think this show was right on par for me, with "For What It's Worth" and just a shade below "Killin Em Softly" (which I think is one of the greatest performances of all-time).
Dave only had 2 scheduled shows in Atlanta: a Thursday 7:30 and Friday 7:30. Since those 2 shows sold out so quickly, they added what eventually came out to 8 total shows (1 Thursday, 2 Friday, 2 Saturday, 2 Sunday, 1 Monday). Dave had what appeared to be about 45-50 mins of prepared material. Somewhere between 30-45 mins of his act were off the top stories/jokes based on the audience shouting on comments and topics. I think 99% of comedians hate this kind of crowd participation -- and as a fan normally I do too -- but Dave thrived on it. Some of the night's best jokes came from his banter with the audience. He also had plenty of material about life after walking away from the Chappelle Show, which was both intriguing and hysterical.
For REAL fans of stand-up comedy, don't miss your chance to see this show. Even while keeping more of a lower profile nowadays, The Army, The Navy is still one of the greatest comedians to grace the stage right now.
